Every first-time founder wants to change the world. This is backwards.
There are industries thriving right now, companies making phenomenal money today, and you want to reinvent all of it before your first sale?
With no network, no capital, no customers?
Picasso supposedly said good artists copy, great artists steal.
Business works the same way. I credit to Nick Huber for putting it bluntly: entrepreneurship is about making money, not disruption.
Your job isn’t inventing a new wheel. It’s studying what already works and doing the common things uncommonly well.
Most companies are “pieced-together-businesses”, marketing stolen from one, sales from another, ops from a third, stitched together with a small spin that fits.
That’s not cheating. That’s how real businesses get built.
Huber’s point is that disruption comes after, not before. Master the fundamentals, get to real revenue, then innovate.
Copy first. Steal smart. The original idea is the last thing you need, and often the least important.
So don’t get bonus points for hard mode and stay curious.
