Time: 4.40 Minutes
We all have this friend which started a gig at one of these silly insurance companies which work more like a pyramid multi-level-marketing shit show. Everything there feels a bit off.
But your friend is on fire. He tells you about how business is running high, and he’s already on to get a new Porsche. You decline his offer friendly but with straightness.
Weeks later, he calls again. And again. And again. This is probably the time you start not answering the phone anymore. We all know stories like this.
But what happened to him? And why there is a lesson for you in there?
After selling to everyone of his family and close friends, he run out of new leads. But what now? This is there the most average will lose traction and finally the job.
And this is why you should learn how to talk to people you don’t know yet. The famous cold outreach. And why I show you today how to craft a great cold email.
Drafting cold emails
One thing first. If you think about cold emailing, you have to think about your target first. Do you want to reach one specific person or do you want to find as many new customers as you can?
Today we talk about the latter. And therefore you have to think in many not one. If you find new customers you have to send shit loads of messages out. If you only do ten the math wouldn’t add up. Cold emailing needs 100s or even 1000s of reps.
Sounds rough and time consuming, but like always I bring you a great source we can steal from.
But to make things short for you, here the key takeaways to craft a good cold email:
Leads first: Use free and paid databases to get verified leads tailored for your industry. Thanks to the internet you can find nearly everyone in the world wide web. Use your ICP to qualify.
Don't use numbers in the subject line: Instead write something what humans would do. Don’t let the subject look-like some AI or spam mailer wrote it. In case just do “{Their Company}} <> {{Your Company}”
Send emails midweek: Emails on monday or friday usually see worse open rates than on other day. Think of yourself here, when do you open cold emails the most?
More than one question is a big no: Asking one question is the best. Reply rates drop as you add questions.
Don't sell in the first email. Invite them to a conversation: The subject line will get them to open the email, the copy will keep them engaged, and the CTA should prompt them to send a follow-up message.
Power of P.S.: Include a P.S. if you want to highlight a fact. I do this all the time. People tend to read the P.S. because they not used to see this often.
Cheat code - Make sure you don't end up in spam: Warm up your email address and avoid spam words: free trial, investment opportunity, etc. Use Mail Tester to check spam scores. (there is cheap software out for this)
Selling is and will stay the key point for your success. Even the best AI-Tool only will win big if selling is done right. So learn the skills to get people’s attention.
Stay curious.
