Time: 4.10 Minutes
Some weeks ago I pretended not to be your productivity guru. That was wrong. And today I want to change my wrongness for good.
Last week I had a deep dive into how to declutter my working life again. We all know that feeling, having a full mind with thousands of things you have to do at once.
This happens. But that had to end again for me.
So here are some great tricks I will and already implemented to do so…
Time-boxing your to do’s: Instead of having a to do list, put your to do’s into your calendar. So you remember what you have to do and also give that task time.
Eat the frog if it takes only two minutes: If a task or to do only takes you two minutes or less, then do it straight away. I block out often “tinkering” time for stuff like this.
Keep an ongoing responds list: If you send out some task or an inquiry to someone, put them on your waiting list. So you never forget all open processes.
Work async from each other where possible: You can solve issues more often via email instead of an extra meeting when you think. Only do meetings if you have to.
Meetings in the afternoon: Talking about meetings. Put them in the afternoon. Use your good morning energy to work on stuff which moves the needle. Talk to others later in the day.
Make room for deep work: Block out 3 hours or more chunks of time to work deep and with focus on important stuff. (a great concept of Cal Newport)
Just to give you an idea why this meeting thing alone is so important.
If you want to get more ideas like this, then read on another great newsletter of product master Lenny Rachitsky here…
I already doing 1),2),4),6) and 10). And I am dreaming of getting an virtual assistant. (who don’t?) Of course some of this needs guts, because co-workers may think you crazy, introducing ideas like this.
But I think it’s worth the effort. Especially the meetings in afternoon and deep work in the morning can be a game changer.
Even if you can’t implement all of this, because your job needs meetings in the morning or so, you should try some of these techniques.
They definitely helped me.
Stay curious.
