“Strategy” is maybe the most prolific word in business.
Every title, every meeting and every PPT with the word strategy in it, elevate its purpose straight higher than without.
Manager Strategy & New Business instead of Manager New Business.
Sales & GTM Strategy Meeting instead of Sales & GTM Meeting.
Or HR Prospects Strategy Planing instead of HR Prospects Planing.
You read and hear what I mean.
But too many people think of strategies in the wrong way. And I want to change this thinking at least for you.
Strategies don’t have to be complex and loaded at all. There is no immutable law that says you can’t win with a simple ass strategy.
Complex problems don’t need a complex solution, most of the time. (I repeat myself here)
I even think that you are more successful with simple and easy to understand strategy, than with a 20 page document, with analyses of risk and SWOT tables.
Last week I read in the below blog post of A smart Bear a great example why an easy strategy is the way to follow.
“The most famous sports coaches seem to credit their success to a few simple principles. They must be simple for a team to remember them, especially when they’re tired and battered near the end of a game.” - A smart Bear
And your team will face near end of the game battles sooner or later too. Think of bad economy, bad sales or resource problems which any company will go through in their life time.
So make your strategies simple, compelling and easy to follow. Tell your people where you want to go, how you will go there and what tactics you use to achieve your objective.
That’s it.
And of course strategies have to be changed often, if learnings or new situations will tell you.
