#1 📩 How Hotmail cracked the system for growth with ease 🔥
We all know Hotmail from the early 2000s, a legacy email provider who made this electronic service accessible for the masses and one of the hardest competitors of AOL and Google for digital messages.
During a time were the internet had only 70 million users, Hotmail grew from zero to 12 million users in only 1.5 years. (many of us wish for a market share like this)
But how did they do this? You may think by investing millions of Dollars for marketing or some shiny partner deal with a big provider?
The answer is way simpler than this. The only used this sentences at the end of every email written by a Hotmail user:
That’s it. End of the story.
And this is genius. Because of the surprising statement of “PS: I love you.” every recipient of the email brings his attention to that detail in the end.
The “free” offer, lowers the bar to even consider this option of using Hotmail.
Also the build in link is a stellar showcase how easy an call to action can be.
There are plenty of little tricks out there, which cost you nearly nothing but bring in huge amount of traffic. You just have to look after opportunities like this.

#2 📈 Growth for beginners with Gustaf Alströmer 🇸🇪
This is not the first time, I tell you that growth doesn’t have to be complex all the time. As in the Hotmail example above, you don’t need to reinvent the wheel to get some traction.
Especially when you starting out with a new startup or product, using the simple and fast hacks first, can give the needed momentum for the long run. Don’t make things hard in the beginning for yourself.
No one can know this better then the infamous accelerator Y Combinator, which helps every three months new startups to find success.
So use this knowledge and keep your growth strategy simple at the start. After you implemented and tested all the simple tricks, you can still think about complex and expensive ways to generate growth.
Here is the swedish YC partner Gustaf Alströmer with the best basics to get the motor running…
And yes igniting fire to your growth machine is a manual job at first. This is the only way you learn the necessary things about your market and your customers.
