Lately I read this idea from Sahil Bloom, it really stuck with me…
In 1968, a mathematician found something strange: adding a shortcut road made traffic slower, not faster.
Why?
Because everyone floods the shortcut, so it jams. The fast lane becomes the slow lane.
AI is that shortcut right now. Everyone’s automating job applications, cold emails, outreach, all the same templates, all the same fake personalization.
When everyone does the easy thing, the easy thing becomes worthless. It’s an anti-signal.
So think more of the opposite. Fewer, better shots. Real effort where others copy-paste. Show up in person where everyone hides behind a screen.
Automate utility, not humanity. Use AI to think stuff through but never to fake connection or even attention.
When everyone rushes the fast lane, you win by taking the long way.
Or what a rule I try most of the time to follow first on:
Try to avoid already crowded places.
So don’t use every shortcut and stay curious.
